More Ways to Stay Healthy on a Caribbean Cruise

In part one, we learned the importance of increased hand washing while traveling, as well as keeping up to date with medication and drinking lots of water. Eating healthful foods and avoiding overeating will also help travelers prevent stomach problems. Drink lots of water, apply sunscreen more often than usual and be aware of the increased chance of sunstroke. Now we will move on to other helpful tips for staying healthy on a cruise.

If seasickness is a concern, there are things that can be done to avoid that awful feeling. Chewing ginger candies is a popular remedy. Some people find wearing acupressure bracelets help, while others rely on booking a cabin on a low deck in the middle of the ship to avoid the rocky feeling that causes seasickness. If this is your first cruise, bring a few different things with you to try. Who knows, maybe you will be fine!

A vacation is supposed to be a getaway from the rat race, but that doesn't mean a body should take on a completely sedentary life during that time. Get lots of relaxation lying on the poolside deck chairs, go to the spa for a massage and have lots of naps. Except, when its time to hit the showers or head to the dining room, take the stairs. Work your muscles a few times a day just so they don't forget how to work. When you finally make it back home, your body won't protest as much as it would if you took the elevator all the time.

Vacations are also sometimes the chance to have a few drinks and loosen up. If this is in your plans, don't go overboard on the alcohol or you could end up overboard - literally. Aside from the killer hangover that will be acerbated by the rock of the ship, there is the added risk of falling overboard, not being able to find your cabin, getting into an altercation or worse. Remember you are on a boat, an enclosed place where you cannot escape from. If you embarrass yourself when drunk, there is nowhere to hide.

Most importantly, help keep your fellow cruisers healthy by being honest about possible symptoms of illness. Reporting your symptoms will not mean losing your place on the cruise; at most it will mean being quarantined in your cabin for a day. However, by telling the truth you will be preventing the possible spread of illness to other passengers.

All the tips laid out in these two articles are simple enough to carry out, but their benefit can make the difference between a successful vacation and a waste of time and money. Protect your investment and have fun!
